better to be pissed off than pissed on, I guess

photo 35 e1327785250806 224x300 better to be pissed off than pissed on, I guessLast night I went to the Australian Open Women’s final.  It was a fantastic game.  Last year, shortly after first arriving out here Down Under, I was taken to see the men’s final with the mate.  I noticed the game went rather quickly last night.  Last year, it seemed like the tennis went on for ages and ages.  Then, it dawned on me, there were 2 less games played with the women than the men!  The men play a best of 5 games, whereas the women play best of 3.  HOW LAME IS THAT!  I guess back in the day (tennis originated from the French), it was thought that the women didn’t have enough stamina to play 5 games.  Well, I’m here to say that is: B U L L S H I T!

Another thing that pisses me off…… I’m getting ready to compete in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) gi championship trials in Sydney Feb 18th.  Below is the “winner regulations”.  Tell me what discrepancies you find wrong:

WINNER AWARD REGULATIONS

• US$ 5,000 incentive for male open weight division Brown/Black Belts:

• 1st Place – US$ 4,000

• 2nd Place – US$ 1,000

(Registration for Brown/Black Belts

Open Weight division will be available

only on the competition day)

•World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Organise Committee will provide Air Ticket, Accommodation, Visa, Food and Transportation to the winners of the divisions described bellow:

• Male White/Blue Belts: Open Weights (Light -74Kg and Heavy +74Kg)

• Male Purple Belt : Open Weight (Light -74Kg, Heavy +74Kg)

• Male Brown/Black Belt : -65Kg, -74Kg, -83Kg, -92Kg, +92Kg

• Female White/Blue Belts: -63Kg, +63Kg

• Female Purple/Brown/Black Belts: -63Kg, +63Kg

• Air Tickets (Arriving in Abu Dhabi April 6th and departure from Abu Dhabi at April 17th)

• The air ticket (return) will be issued with Sydney as the departure and arrival point, as this is where the qualifier took place.

•In the case that an athlete request a different point of departure, a request can be made to the WPJJC Committee for their consideration, as long as it is submitted in time for changes to be made and that the cost of such change does not exceed or is less than the initial ticket price.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be provided from the arrival date to the departure date.

Did you catch it?  NO PRIZE MONEY FOR THE FEMALES!  WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Maybe if there was some cash incentives involved, more women would come out and play.  More women would be down to “turn it up a notch” and get wicked out on the mats.  This reminds me of the “Mr/Mrs Olympia” world class body building event that is held in Las Vegas, USA every year.  First place for the men is somewhere around and over $100,000.  For the women?  $25,000.  WTF is wrong with THAT???????????????????????????????????????

All athletes should be treated equal, PERIOD!

Hey mate, Is this event a one day only event. I live in sydney and i wouldn’t mind seeing you roll in comp. And is there a round about time you will be competing?. As for the price money, Yeah there are big differences, but i guess the reason they seem to always come up with is that the mens comp is more popular. Wether it be MMA, Boxing, Bodybuilding, etc. Weather it be right or wrong that seems to be the common excuse. I myself enjoy watching both. I think its a thing were the public need to rally support behind the womens events, and show organizers they are just as popular as the men and deserve a good share of the prize money.

The Natural Olympia also has a fabulous prize for the male winner, nothing much for the female winner. Popularity may be the issue – but why are women’s events less popular (except for bikini competitions, of course)?

Shit it’s like worse for “mma” fights. Now I know why Kyra Gracie don’t look no richer. She’s won every Abu Dhabi she been in.

Isn’t it annoying Tammy! lol….. I think if there was more of an incentive for women, more of us would come out and play. Think it’s time I stop carrying on about it, and freaking do something to get some changes happening. My OCD will have me thinking about this for the next 2 weeks straight :)

I was at the women’s final as well. It also went quick because Vika was so dominant! But I have agreed for a long time that the women should go to 5 sets and have equal prize money (if they don’t already). Fitting it into the schedule is likely the issue, but both the men and women have 7 rounds so maybe the first 3 rounds could be 3 sets ( both sexes) and the remainder 5 sets.

Btw – on the couch watching the 5th set of the men’s final at 1 am and it’s a cracker!

  7. Glen says:

I guess another argument with the equal pay is you can say ok ladies play 5 sets and get equal pay. But if the men are getting better ratings on tv and selling more tickets in the tennis for example, which i think they do but im not 100%. Is it fair then that the pay is equal. As you can say well men attracted bigger audiences, so men should get more money.

  8. Kortney says:

hahahahaha! I heard! 2am right? I WOULD HAVE LEFT AT MIDNIGHT MATE! hahahah! O dear, that made me laugh. thanks for that!

  9. Kortney says:

As you know I’m Kortney with a k. I’ve learned most things in life @ a price. Some lessons were pretty cheap! Conversely, some lessons, well… not-so-much. Over all, I like to sum it all up as such; “I’ve done all the hard work, so you don’t have to!”.
